COMPOSITION COMPETITION RESULTS

Congratulations to Jay Anthony Gach who is the winner of Saxtet Publications Sax Quartet Composition Competition with his score Trains, steam whistles and radiator pipes. The judging panel thinks that it's an exciting, excellently crafted piece of writing, that will make an impressive performance piece in the 2005 Saxophone Congress Gala Concert at Birmingham Conservatoire, where it will be premiered on 13th February.

Many thanks to the rest of you who took part in the competition.   We received over 35 - very diverse! -  scores, many of which were imaginative and well-presented.   A significant proportion are really very high quality, appealing works, which we hope will be taken up and performed by sax quartets everywhere.

Listed below are some of the scores that were submitted and several are now available at Sibelius Music.

Thanks again to everyone who showed an interest in this competition.

COMPOSITION COMPETITION for Saxophone Quartet

SAXTET PUBLICATIONS is launching a new competition to celebrate the VIII British Saxophone Congress 2005 in association with The Clarinet & Saxophone Society of Great Britain and Birmingham Conservatoire.

We are looking for an original work for saxophone quartet (SATB), no longer than 5 minutes and in Sibelius format.

The results and a sample of the winning score will be posted here, along with a feature article on the winning composer.

All submissions will be listed on the Saxtet Publications website after the competition. Should composers decide to self-publish their scores at www.sibeliusmusic.com, a link will be established from Saxtet Publications to that website.

The winning score will be performed by all of the finalists in the Saxophone Quartet (performance) Competition on Sunday 13th February 2005, during the VIII British Saxophone Congress at Birmingham Conservatoire. The winning saxophone quartet will perform the winning score, at the Gala Concert later that evening.

Saxtet Publications will publish the winning score in summer 2005, subject to it meeting Saxtet Publications’ standard publishing regulations and conditions.
