My Lady Carey's Dompe

Description

My Lady Carey's Dompe is one of the oldest surviving pieces of renaissance music. A traditional English tune, it was probably originally written for harpsichord or lute.
Constructed over a two part ostinato, the soprano can also take the opportunity to improvise over the ostinati, as the keyboard or lutist would have originally done in the 16th century.
The word dompe has many meanings including dance, lament or melancholic love song.
