Originally written for a quintet of soprano saxophone, electric violin, bass guitar, marimba and percussion, Slip Reel was the first of 3 movements from Catherine's suite 'From the East of Ireland' first performed by the composer herself in 2007. The suite was inspired by a mixture of Eastern European and Celtic folk music, with Slip Reel edging towards the latter.
Driving beats, flying fingers and percussive piano writing make this an ideal encore piece or an impressive toe-tapper.
