Reviews

A very nice arrangement of this much loved Elgar piece. It does, however, fall into the category of 'easy notes difficult music'. It goes without saying that strict adherence to the many dynamic variations is essential, but the factors critical to playing this piece well are phrasing and breathing. If either of these is not carefully applied by all four players working together then the piece is spoiled. Having said that, when phrasing, breathing and dynamics are controlled across the quartet and thoughtfully applied then it's a beautiful addition to the repertoire when the occasion requires it.
Peter Boyd, 3.3.12
