Elgar is probably Britain's most famous composer of early 20th Century, and represents British Romanticism at its best. Nimrod was originally Variation No. 9 from his Enigma Variations, and pays a subtle homage to Beethoven. Nimrod now stands as a piece in its own right and has been affectionately adopted as the soundtrack to official British state mourning. This arrangement for saxophone choir captures Elgar's noble and majestic orchestration exploiting the saxophones' string-like qualities.
