'Celtic Suite' is Gavin Whitlock's first 'classical' composition although even here, Celtic folk rhythms and harmonies and jazz influenced melodic lines, are prominent.
This combination, inspired by a weekend of gigs in and around Cork in October 1999, inventively deploys the full range of the four saxophones and provides an exciting new addition to the concert repertoire.
The piece was premiered at Trinity College of Music in June 2000 and featured in their programme at the Sixth British Saxophone Congress in November 2000.
There are three contrasting movements.
