This scaled down version of a larger piece works well. Although it doesn't have the sheer power of the six sax original in the opening and final sections it does benefit from a greater sense of clarity. The line often gets lost in the six sax version mainly because it's hard to find a six sax players of similar abilities. I have yet to come across a professional saxophone sextet but who knows - it would certainly at present be a short gig. Also an established quartet will already have a tight ensemble feel as well as a better balance than a group of six put together for the occasion.
